Computer artists claim to have recreated the face of Jesus Christ using digital technology.
The image was created by taking information and blood encoded on the Turin Shroud - the blood-stained linen that many believe was the burial cloth of the crucified Jesus Christ - and transforming it into a 3D image.
In a two-hour TV special on the History Channel, to air in the U.S. tonight, the computer artists will reveal their image of Jesus in full.

But the results may surprise some viewers. According to the company that made the image it does not resemble the popularized version of Jesus.

Fascinating stuff - what do you want to bet the image is not of a Caucasian with blond hair and blue eyes......

Is the Shroud of Turin from the time of Jesus? Everything I have read seems to indicate that. They found pollen from plants common to Jerusalem in that time and the cloth is the right age. Is the image that of Jesus? I am not convinced that it is. The program will be interesting to watch. GOOD post.

Yeah saw a documentary where they talked about some of the testing that has previously been done and put the shroud at the wrong time and they now believe it is from around the time of Christ. I am not convinced that it came from the tomb of Jesus or that, like you it is the image of Jesus - but should be a really good programme!

As the article stresses, it does not matter if this image is or is not Jesus' face.

I am not at all convinced that the shroud is authentic. The imagery is too photographic and precise. Forgers, however, could also be expected to at least try to replicate the conditions that created this cloth, and that the image is photographic sheds both doubt and surety on its authenticity. An enigma.

it is a computer generated image from the shapes and stains of the shroud so it would look like this i think. not that I am by any means and expert! programme must be worth a look. it is an enigma indeed!

I wish I'd seen the show, guess I'll have to watch it Saturday night when it airs again. I'm looking to see if it shows another gentile with long hair and blue eyes. Jewish men of that time had short hair. If this was a Jewish man who was crucified, and Jesus wasn't the only one, then I'm curious because the possibility exists that it's Him. Of course, like I said, Jesus wasn't the only Jewish man crucified by the Romans, but how many of those men would appear on a shroud over 2,000 years later? Worth watching.

Well, I saw it and its pretty amazing. It's not a gentile, blond haired, blue eyed messiah. There is blood, but nothing to have made the designs, no paints, no stains, nothing. The cloth has traces of a pollen found only in Israel. A few years ago, carbon dating placed the shroud's origin too late to have been the shroud of Christ, but they have since found paintings of the shroud pre-dating the carbon dating date by centuries, showing the shroud with the burn holes exactly as they are. These aren't the burns from the fire in France, it is older burn marks and the paintings show them exactly. Therefore, I suppose we can ignore the carbon dating fiasco, which the scientists at the time admitted might be screwed up because of the fire in france having penetrated the linen. Regardless, if it was a artistic hoax in the 10th or 11th century, the hands would have had nail holes thru the palms and was once thought to be the way crucifictions were done, but the shroud has the holes thru the wrists, as crucifictions were actually done. No artist of that time would have known that. Also, a man to be crucified would not also be whipped as was obvious with the person on the shroud. It was usually one or the other, never both. Pilot had him whipped in the hopes the crowd would be satisfied and release him. Another thing, any other crucified person would not have had blood on his head from thorns, as they didn't crucify possible "King of the Jews" every day. So I guess I'm starting to believe the shroud is the real thing. If the scientists can't figure it out, that's pretty telling itself.
