Glenn Beck smears Obama's 11-year-old daughter

Glenn Beck, who repeatedly and angrily tells his alleged persecutors to "leave the families alone," spent a good chunk of his radio program this morning mocking and attacking the intelligence of President Obama's 11-year-old daughter, Malia.

Obama remarked yesterday during his press conference that Malia asked him of the Gulf oil spill: "Did you Plug The Hole Yet, Daddy?" Beck, taking off on this, mockingly affected Malia's voice, asking "Daddy" why he "hates black people so much." Then Beck attacked Malia's intelligence, saying: "That's the level of their education, that they're coming to - they're coming to daddy and saying 'Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?' "

Dayum every time I think Beck can't sink any lower into the slime he proves me wrong. He is so pathetic it is painful to even watch him for more then a few moments at a time. Personaly I think he needs a LONG stay in a rubber room.

I heard that this morning on the radio. I think it's disgusting. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it myself. If it were one of Palin's kids getting lampooned you can bet there would be massive right wing outcry. That said, I think any side's minor children should not be fair game.

This is pretty much what Limbaugh did to Clinton's daughter Chelsea.

I believe he made fun of her calling her ugly back when she was in her early teens in the mid 90s. It shows how disgusting a person has to be to whole heartedly believe in the hyper conservative rhetoric.

The right always attack those who cant hit back.

You do know that studies show right wingers were more likely to be bullies in school?

feeling big by picking on someone small?

They do this all the time.. remember they also attacked that parkinsons paitent.. calling him names.. cause he supported health care?

How about when they attacked that elderly woman for having to wear her dead sisters dentures?

they attack the poor all the time, cause they have no voice.

It's really pathetic? a child?

and bush never ever had to go through such sleeze.
at the most people remarked when his daughter was caught getting drunk.

but the right attacks obama, his wife and kids constantly... while demanding we leave their families alone.

It's really pathetic.

I say we send them all to texas and then ejected the state from the union.

Joules wrote (in #1.5): "The right always attacks those who cant hit back. You do know that studies show right wingers were more likely to be bullies in school? Feeling big by picking on someone small?"

Sometimes, but that's more of a variation in general human behavior. I'm not sure the right has a monopoly on that.

The thing I perceive is a common pathological preference for one's own interest, even when it comes at the expense of another. Social conservatives literally share a wholesale failure to see things from another person's point of view. What does one expect from a social group that would make "empathy" a bad word?

We've all seen the bumper stickers that read: "Annoy a liberal: Work hard; be happy." I wish I could find the counter-point: "Annoy a conservative: Think about someone other than yourself; do the right thing."

Calling conservatives bullies only works for certain cases. If there's a common accusation that fits, it's calling them all self-absorbed egomaniacs who care so disproportionately about themselves that they no longer conform to the expectations society places on adults regarding decent behavior.

1.7 - he should have his hole plugged.

I suspect one of his holes has been plugged for a very long time and could account for a lot of his problems. Now if someone would only plug the one at the anterior end.

I'm a conservative and I find that bringing innocent children of politicians into the discussion is reprehensible. It was wrong when the lefties went after Bristol, and equally wrong for Beck to jest at the Obama girls' expense. Did he ever consider that word might get back to them that some national radio personality is making fun of them?

Beck's apology:

In discussing how President Obama uses children to shield himself from criticism

Beck. If you're going to "discuss", this lowbrow stuff has no place in it.

I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates.

Ya think?

It was a stupid mistake and I apologize--and as a dad I should have known better.

So. You had a rule, and as a Dad you knew it was wrong. But you did it anyway. If some leftie takes a swipe at your kids, you can't cry foul.

FWIW I've watched his TV program a few times. He makes some good points there, but last night in The O'Reilly Factor he called O'Reilly a "creampuff" I believe it was about Bill's softness on Obama. That's because Bill doesn't have an axe to grind against Obama, and has given the president credit when credit is due, balancing that with criticism when he feels it's due. Give me The O'Reilly Factor over Glen Beck anyday.

Really, Mike, "the Greatest Generation?"

The generation that gave us the McCarthy witchhunt, Viet Nam, and The Whole Middle-East. This is the greatest generation?

Glenn Beck and people like him are smucks and will say and do what they please to make a dollar. But please don't denigrate the entire culture because you're not happy.

We have had a major technological shift in our culture in the last 20 years; things are moving very fast, and it is hard to keep up. Some of the negative results of this is the TEA party and and the Ultra-conservatives (replacing the neo-conservatives) using the technology for their own selfish ends. I don't know what will happen in the future, whether we can come back from this, but to "damn it all" because of a few bad actions is short-sighted and leads no-where.

If Sarah Palin left her kids behind then the left could be screaming what a bad mother she is.

Also, I understand her privacy asking for a private transportation, she doesn't want to be the target of the passengers looking and teasing her kids.

And......after reading so many posts I changed my mind and Beck was mocking the President. He did not have to bring his daughter Melia to the political arena and about a subject that is touchy and is taking a toll.

Seems like he wakes up every morning ,and finds someone pooped in his Cheerios,,,I ONLY HEAR (CRICKETS) WHEN I see his name, on reply, and don't bother to read his stuff, which is sad because even uptights ,sometimes have good stuff,,though rare.Should change his name to Badger ,for real .

If Sarah Palin left her kids behind then the left could be screaming what a bad mother she is.

One got pregnant as an unwed teen right under her own roof. Another may have been involved in a break-in and burglery. Her youngest son with special needs is carried around like a handbag and used as a political prop. She's not winning Mother of the Year any time soon.

I would have said he should pick on someone his own size but then it occurred to me that Beck is no match for an eleven year old girl.

she is like 5'8 and plays soccer. She could probably kick his arse by her lonesome and do just fine! :)

Her oldest son is an Iraq war veteran.

You would rather he would have been aborted, correct?

It happens, you know. Don't you remember what it was like as a teenager? The pull to sex was fantastic, how many of you said no at the last minute? The girl is horny as hell + trying to please the guy. The guy is even hornier and will say anything just to get into those pants and satisfy that burning need.

I strongly believe some are being a bit hypocritical about miss Palin getting pregnant. She should have made him wear a raincoat, but sex among teenagers will happen.

Then to blame Mrs. Palin is ludicrous, you know when those two got together alone, Sara wasn't aware, and they were going to do it somewhere.

New haven, I never said I thought it a good idea, that really wasn't the point to the reply anyway, the fact that kids will have sex is the point. I will admit though that I once spent several months living with my girlfriend and her family. We were seperated at nite though and no hanky panky went on in the home.

seems to me that ol' " i've got a gold coin beck has again succeeded in accomplishing his mission. he's only here to piss people off and keep us divided, anyone with an I.Q. above 40 knows he's a complete joke but bringing his family into anything would serve no purpose and only help him in his endeavor. it's just a comedy act that he does and it makes a whole lot more sense to laugh at him instead of getting pissed. the only reason the tea kettle even has anything to do with him is because they have no true heroes to champion their cause( sarah failin, ramblin paul, lush limbag, proof given) and they'd let a thirty day old corpse speak for them if it could. i'm not suggesting to give the guy a pass completely but instead just cozy up on the couch ,pop some corn and let him entertain ya , if you can get to that point he really is a friggin riot. i don't know what i'd do in between innings if he wasn't on...............................

In that they are both bipeds, yes. But Becks's schtick is reactionary, radical, and based on a fictional understanding of what's going on.

Olbermann is an actual journalist and that's why he scares the willies out of the right wing, because they thought they'd managed to bully the profession into compliance with their 'bias' nonsense. 'Bias' meaning any story or comment that may reflect poorly on the right wing.

Well actualy he is a sports caster and baseball officinado first, college graduate, and makes no bones about the fact he does an opinion show on MSNBC. That said he provides information to support his opinions, something Beck is unable to do. Now you are free to dissagree with his opinions, but hey that's part of what makes this a great country. And as you MAY have discovered by now there is this new fangled item called a "remote control" it lets you change the channel whenever you want to. So if you don't want to watch Olberman, don't, change the Channel enjoy your freedom of choice. It is certainly something I do whenever I see Beck on the screen, and just as fast as I can push the button.

I've never watched Olberman, but I can tell you that Beck supports nearly everything he says with video and/or script. That is a fact.

The exception is when he is actually spouting opinion, or history where there are no videos, but books and writers.

All the so called czars he claims are radical in one form or another, he played video, In There Own Words. Being an opinion show, he will conjecture, but based upon information he has shown.

As you say, you are free to believe or not his opinion, but you have to accept the subjects own words. It isn't fair to call someone's 'opinion' lies, and you can't prove them to be lies.

I don't like him (see my comments of #1.8 and #5.2), but I have to try to understand why an adult would say such things. I don't like playing devil's advocate when advocating for an actual devil, but this is the best guess I can come up with:

The president's comment was probably at least partly rhetorical. The Obama girls seem like smart kids; they certainly have access to world-class education. The Art Linkletter-esque, from the mouths of babes simplicity of the Malia anecdote is probably an exaggeration, used for effect. Malia Obama is probably a very cosmopolitan 11 year old. I would actually be a little surprised to encounter such a five year old-ish question from her.

Glenn Beck may resent the use of a sympathetic rhetorical device for what cynical conservatives of his stripe undoubtedly perceive as an effort to deflect criticism from the administration. He wants to see president Obama groan under the same criticism as president Bush did over hurricane Katrina. That's what he wants to see. It isn't a secret.

Where Beck went wrong (besides picking the wrong side of the moral debate over how to be a good citizen) was making fun of Miss Obama. Mr. Beck could have just as easily said:

"Mr. President, your daughters are smart young women. I resent your use of their innocence as a shield. If your eleven year old asked you about the Gulf oil spill, you know her question was more to the point than that."*

See, that even took fewer words.

*I would like to say that I in no way offer my services to Glenn Beck as a prospective writer or publicist. I'd sleep sounder if I pledged my time to the service of Satan.

That's because he didn't go after the younger daughter no matter how much the right lies (as usual) about it. It's obvious to anyone with 1) brains 2) honesty - that he was talking about Bristol, who did indeed get knocked up by another sports figure.

It's only complete idiots like Beck and his followers that think the younger daughter was the one being talked about.

Let me refresh your failing memory. The sick Letterman joke was made about the Palin daughter who was at the Yankee game with her mother, which was the younger one. Case closed. Like your mind.

John John - he was talking about the older one and he apologised when he realized the photo/video showed the younger child when he was speaking of the older PREGNANT child. You know, like an idiotic mistakes we all make from time to time by opening our mouths before we realize what we are saying is kinda dumb.

If I remember correctly, Letterman apologized. Will Beck? Doubt it. I've heard him call our President a terrorist, an illegal, and other names that he has NO right calling anyone. For someone who lives in a glass house, he sure does cast a lot of stones!

            Mr. Russell...

I don't remember all this angst when Letterman was humilating the younger Palin daughter.

Ummm, yeah...that's because you were way...WAY... too busy repeatedly referring the Palin daughters as "sluts", to notice what anyone else had to say. I remember it quite vividly, as I found your endless use of the word far more disconcerting that Mr. Letterman's inappropriate joke.

I counted at the time...but since that was nearly a year ago...I forget...how many times in the days following Mr. Letterman's JOKE (which never used the word slut or anything remotely similar) did you refer to either one or both of the Palin daughters as "sluts". My guess is more than a dozen...closer to 20!!

When I brought the abject absurdity of your statements to your attention...it was brushed off with the following feckless comment:

the logical implication of Letterman's joke, only a 'slut' would be in the circumstance....that Letterman is describing.

It was bull@!$%# then...and it hasn't improved with age. To maintain that joking about the daughter of a political figure is wrong...but it's OK to continuously call that same person a slut...is the epitome of partisan hypocrisy.

The sick Letterman joke was made about the Palin daughter who was at the Yankee game with her mother, which was the younger one. Case closed. Like your mind.

Really!!?? So were you lying back then when you said...

"I will give Letterman a slight benefit of the doubt and assume he thought the older daughter was the one with Sarah Palin at the Yankee game.

            And...

There is no question that the 'rape' aspect of this was very likely not meant by Letterman, and that he or his writer assumed that Bristol was the one at the game.

            ...or are you lying now??

LOFL..gotta love that NV archives every post!! Hoisted by your own petard!!

The older Palin girl has a history of getting pregnant by athletes, which was why the joke was funny. There was a huge grain of truth to it. Therefore, only liars and idiots, like Glenn Beck, still try to claim he was talking about the younger daughter.

Thanks BO! The jarring disconnect of repeatedly referring to Palin's daughters in such a derogatory manner in order to denounce a joke that was actually less offensive...really stayed with me. When I saw these latest comments, I felt compelled to say something.

Duplicity will always come back to haunt a person...

Hopefully. I suspect that the previous statements...or the current ones...will be twisted.. or creatively interpreted... so as to deny the painfully apparent duplicity! But, I guess we both know! :)

Boons, I could outthink you even if I had a full lobotomy.

The only duplicity here is from the morally deprived who cannot be fair. Letterman, on purpose or by his carelessness, suggested Palin's 14 year old daughter had public sex with a 30 year old at a baseball game. That is at least on a par with what Beck said.

Now, where was all this righteous indignation on your parts during the Letterman-Palin episode?

Mind if I ask a question? I've been through many elections and have worked for politicians on both side of the spectrum and I never seen the sort of name-calling we're seeing this year. Why not refer to the President by name and title. Is there something different this year?

No I really (don't, I will do what it takes to resolve the situation but I do have certain parameters ), I was a bouncer, a bodyguard as well as did other things (I'd rather not mention). I behave here on the vine, and now in real life am quite peaceful, but when situations become "out of hand" I am still "the one to call". Not to say I am without class, but have been a "person to get things done" / (not against wet work). I have become more under control since "settling down". Don't ever over or underestimate me and my behavior. ;)

Last I checked, Obama did not preach abstinance and then allow his daughter to have her boyfriend sleepover. Palin did. Bristol then entered the public eye all on her own by making her own hypocritical pitch for abstinance (too late, sweetie) and selling the baby's pics to People magazine.

              Slight difference.

Of course, he isn't. Conservatives never admit when they're wrong...even if they know they are wrong. It makes them "look weak" to their enemies.

You liberals need to lighten up a little. Beck is an entertainer. You all know Daddy nor the government has the sense to plug the hole. This will be done by the experts in the private sector. They don't need a Harvard lawyer to tell them how to plug the hole. Remember, he's just a community organizer. I'm sure Beck's quotes were embellished a little bit here.

Letterman told the joke about the 18 year old (adult) Bristol. He was referencing her very real, very factual history of getting impregnated by athletes.

when Malia is 18 and is an unwed babymamma b/c Michelle and Barack allowed her boyfriend to sleep in her bedroom for months at a time, then Letterman can make a joke about that, too...

                Bubba,

When you fill your tank-do you know where that gas came from?-No, you don't-you don't know whether it came from Saudi oil, or from the US, and you will never know. OPEC controls that, and we pool our oil. Domestic drilling is a talking point, it will not lower the price of our gas.

You talk about letting "the experts" fix this mess, but at the same time conservatives like you are screaming that Obama is not "doing enough", but if he did, and took over and sent FEMA, you would be calling it "socialism" or some kind of "gumment takeover" There is no pleasing people like you.

BTW-you can live without shrimp, but there are many, many people who make their livelihood off of shrimp-that could be gone now-forever maybe-because some "cowboy" decided that conglomerate oil companies are worth more than American enterprise, and relaxed regulation. So when these people can't pay their mortgage or feed their children-will you call them "deadbeats" Through no fault of their own, their livelihood was wiped away-I suppose they could be industrious and wipe the oil off-right? Or find something else to do-right?

You cannot compare what Letterman and Beck said- first of all-Obama is the president of the United States, and love him or hate him -he deserves a little more respect-especially since he has never dragged his children into the spotlight, or attacked anyones elses children, in fact defended Palin and her children-even though Palin can't find it in herself to show one iota of respect to Obama. Letterman is a comedian, Beck is a entertainer, but he is a god to too many brain-dead Americans. Palin was/is a nobody, and her daughter did in fact get pregnant out of wedlock as a teenager. I'm not sure if you realize this or not-but you have to have sex to get pregnant-so a joke about her sexuality isn't exactly taboo. Malia is a child, and has yet to do something controversial-so Beck called her dumb-so you justify Beck calling an 11 yr. old stupid, because Letterman mocked the sexual antics of a teenage mom.

If you can't take the heat-keep your pants on

I don't want government to do anything. Let the private sector handle this. The government knows nothing about deep water drilling. Oil is a commodity subject to supply and demand. If the government stops off shore drilling the supply decreases and the price of gasoline will go up. The government can restrict all they want, but the price will go up when production is cut. Unfortunately Americans can't live without gasoline. Buy some stock in companies that compete with BP and you won't go wrong. Get a piece of that obscene profit.

This will be done by the experts in the private sector. And BP still can't get it's act together. The amount of leaked so far is more then what the US uses in a single day (20 million barrels). If the clean-up and law suits break BP, Haliburton and anyone else involved - too bad.

The only justice will be when the hurricanes come and blow that oil right into the oil headquarters in Houston.

Side note - what people don't understand is that the "known" oil reserves come to 1.2 trillion barrels and at the world "current" daily usage of 85 million barrels - we will run out within 41 years and that's if you stay at current consumation rate.

                But I digress.

If they didn't want jokes about them being lushes, they shouldn't have broken the law by going out drinking before they turned 21, and in the process, get blind, stinking, falling down drunk.

Kids, adults or not (they weren't when the Dem manager of the restaurant called the police knowing very well that she could talk to the Secret Service) the family of the President of the United States are off the table, including their own parents.

Are you saying they should have had a free pass on law breaking because they were the president's kids?

What I am saying is that the Manager had access to the Secret Service and then.... they could call the father and not trying to embarrass the kids of the sitting President. Please don't tell me that she did not know who the twins were.

Do you know why I support Sarah Palin? Because her kids were subject to the malicious and despicable attack, even mentioning incest, etc.

To have called the Secret Service, rather than the police to handle it would have been to cover it up and give a 'free pass'.

In all honesty, I couldn't tell you what either of the twins look like. Never cared enough to pay attention to his kids as they were not my president. They did not hold any public office, or work for my country in any capacity that I know of. The same with Clinton's daughter, and Carter's.

However, as adults (18 and over) if they screw up they deserve the same as any other nobody.

I am no fan of the president. But, this is mean-spirited and just plain wrong. I don't care how much you dislike a parent, you don't go attacking their kid.

Maybe we should start blaming Becks kid Mary's cerebral palsy on all the drugs and alcohol Beck took.

John, conservatives are the ones who are known to discriminate against Americans with disabilities-look at your hero, Rand Paul.

Isn't it ironic that George HW Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act? That's probably because his veto wouldn't survive.

I'd wish polio on you, but polio has been eradicated in this country.
