Glenn Beck: 'Obama's not a racist, he's demonic' (Video)

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Glenn Beck once again apologized for calling President Barack Obama a racist, while going on to imply that President Obama is actually demonic.

In the interview, Beck claimed that Obama is practicing a demonic form of Christianity. For Beck, any sort of "liberation theology" is demonic. However, it is unclear if Beck even knows what liberation theology is. Indeed, it is unclear whether or not Beck could distinguish his anus from a hole in the ground.

Beck's fixation on the evils of liberation theology is a common theme of the right wing nut's religious rants. Beck's claim that Obama isn't a Christian, because he practices a perversion of Christianity, is ludicrous. To dismiss liberation theology as a perversion of Christianity is like calling Christ a pervert. There is nothing more Christian than a passion for social justice.

And what gives Glenn 'crazy' Beck the right to label other people through his religious world view?

If Beck is a devout follower of his avowed faith, here are some of the things he believes:

The earth is 7,000 years old.

Mars and Venus have dry rivers. The dry rivers on Mars and Venus were the source of the flowing rivers on earth. The theory is that the dry rivers on Mars and Venus ”match” the rivers on Earth and that proves that all three planets were organized from the same source.

Dinosaur bones come from other planets. LDS Church Institute instructors teach that fossilized dinosaur bones are from creatures that lived on other worlds that were ruined in the creation of the earth.

Cain, who killed his brother Abel, was so evil that God ”cursed” him with black skin, thus making the African race.

In cases of the sin of murder, the murder of the sinner and the mixing of his blood with the earth bring forgiveness.

When Native Americans become Mormons their skin turns white.

The preface to the Book of Mormon from 1981 indicates that descendents of Lehi are a ”remnant of the House of Israel” and were ancestors to American Indians. (FYI - The DNA of Native Americans indicates an Asian origin)

When a marriage is sealed in the Temple, a husband can know his wife’s celestial name, but she cannot know his. This is so that if he so chooses, he can resurrect her after her death by calling her celestial name.

Mormons believe that after the resurrection, Jesus visited America and there he performed miracles and taught.

There is more; from cryptic gold tablets to "magical underwear". I'm just sayin' that it's good to know these things before you go to the next Beck-a-palooza.

Why do all these Becks, and others always have to attach people on their choice of religion. Beck accuses O'bama of demonic religion, which is worshipping the devil, I've never seen a supposedly religious man call so many other people names, and degrade them so heavily for their religion. Even though the Westboro Baptist Church, seems to be the worst in the land, to attach the president constantly, and degrade him for religion, even his seems to be more main stream, then what Beck supposedly seems to believe in. When and why did religion become damnable with accusation, and hate. Religion is not about politics, but people keep using the other as a weapon to cast aspersions, for political reasons and it is wrong.

The whole entire book of Mormon was also pulled from a hat. Literally. Joseph Smith convinced his buddy that he was talking to god, and that he needed him to write down everything he said. Smith looked into a hat and began 'talking to god' while his buddy wrote down everything he said. When his friend went home with the notes and showed his wife, she wisely told him to tell Smith that he had lost the notes and they would have to be taken again. That way he could tell if Smith was really talking to god, because the notes should be exactly the same. Instead Smith said that god had a new book for him to write and pulled a completely different story out of the hat.

Beck is projecting again. He has to create new evil for people to hate, so they will not see that it is himself that is evil. Another article I think that was linked yesterday addressed the addiction psychology of Beck's behavior. It was an interesting read and rather pegged Beck spot on. I'll have to find it.

Speaking as a person who is very familiar with Mormonism this attack on President Obama's Christianity is an attack on Christianity. The Mormon church has built up its membership from its very beginning by attacking the Christian church. It was not to long ago that Beck was telling Christians to abandon their churches if they were progressive. That too was an attack on Christianity.

Wake up Christians, the biggest threat to this country is not Islam. It is the cult of Mormonism that masquerades as Christian but is more like Islam. www.utlm.org

Beck is now walking down a very dangerous road. If he is going to talk about other's religions, he better be prepared to talk about his own.

I am sick and tired of the Glenn Beck hate fest, and if he thinks his Dignity and Honor campaign can be a movement, he had better think again. He will drive away some of his followers by trying to channel god and speak for him.

As far as I'm concerned, "getting back to God" is a decision one makes personally. As an atheist, I DO NOT want our government "getting back to God". As a matter of fact, like the Fonmuding Fathers clearly indicated, God should be kept as far away from government as possible.

Why do all these Becks, and others always have to attach people on their choice of religion.

It's their clarion call. It's like Sarah Palin stirring up the religious fervor, they're trying to motivate their base and nothing does that better than appealing to their religious hatreds.

It's always one religious group vs. another, I say get rid of the lot of them.

I can understand this sentiment but honestly, I don't think it would matter.

What we often overlook is the simple and constant existence of the human condition. In any grouping of people, rather it be race, political leanings, religion, age, etc etc etc, there are going to be various kinds of people. Some will be violent, some will be angry, some will be compassionate - no one religion has cornered the market on 'goodness' or 'evil' because the religion is always a secondary factor to the human genome.

Summary: take away religion, and I firmly believe people would find some other arbitrary reason to fight with each other ;)

So, is Beck acting as a theologian or a commentator here?

Funny how Beck ( and Pope Benedict, from the quote he mentioned ) infers social injustice is to be put on God and not the human beings on the planet. Just the usual "we claim to support individual responsibility but blame someone else whenever possible" idea.

I think I can tell where this will be going next, though. The articles and encylopedia entries I checked out on this mentioned the scorn liberation theology got for being "Marxist." My guess is that Beck's trying to add a religious element to the "socialist" and "Marxist" accusations targeting Obama to eliminate any need for "proof" to counter his own "faith."

Beck played a montage of clips from the president stating variations of the theme that individual and collective salvation are intertwined. “”My individual salvation rests on our collective salvation,” says Obama in one clip. Beck jumped on this equation as his most critical evidence that the president is not really a Christian – and by implication, not a loyal American. Then he unloaded.

“It does not. It does not," he asserted. "That is not a Christian belief.”

Rather, he said, it is liberation theology – a Catholic movement aligned with Marxism that originated in Latin America.

ok beck calls this liberation theology and if obama is speaking of the salvation of his soul then maybe it is outside of what christ came for in order to free all mens souls.

obama's statement:

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You can take your diploma, walk off this stage and chase only after the big house and the nice suits and the other things that our money culture says you should buy, you can choose to narrow your concerns and live life in a way that tries to keep your story separate from America's, but I hope you don't, not because you have an obligation to those who are less fortunate, although I believe you do have that obligation; not because you have a debt to all those who helped you get to where you are today, although I do believe you have that debt to pay. It's because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: And recognizing that my fate remain tied up with their fates, that my individual salvation is not going to come about without a collective salvation for the country.

this is speaking of the salvation of us as a people, not individual souls, not in a religious manner at all. this is about the present not the afterlife. twisting the words of obama in the manner that beck has done only proves that glen beck still wants to do anything he can to discredit obama in his own campaign for the position of god.

Ain't that the truth. It is so frustrating to see these lies day after day after day. Obama could sit and quote bible scriptures 24/7 and these people would still find some way to distort and skew it to suit their agendas. I know for certain that these people are no representatives of God. How many in the dead sea of people at Beck's alter this weekend know that though? I never would have thought I'd have seen what I saw this weekend. Who's next to champion such a cause/venue? Perez Hilton? Larry Flint? This is precisely the company that Beck keeps in my mind.

Black Liberation Theology , which is/ was Obama's faith for 17 years is specifically pro black and anti white. In other words, racist.

It may be pro black, but it is not anti white. It is pro justice.

http://www.wfu.edu/~matthetl/perspectives/twentyseven.html

What is the goal of a black theology of liberation? Is it a society in which blacks are given special treatment and rights? No. All Black theologians are asking for is for freedom and justice. No more, and no less. In asking for this, the Black theologians, turn to scripture as the sanction for their demand. The Psalmist writes for instance, "If God is going to see righteousness established in the land, he himself must be particularly active as 'the helper of the fatherless' (Psalm 10:14) to 'deliver the needy when he crieth; and the poor that hath no helper' (Psalm 72:12).

Karl Barth--who was not black--recognized the legitimacy of this demand. "For this reason, Barth wrote, "in the relations and events in the life of his people, God always takes his stand unconditionally and passionately on this side alone: against the lofty and on behalf of the lowly; against those who already enjoy right and privilege and on behalf of those who are denied it and deprived of it."

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

This is a quote from the man who is probably most responsible for Black Liberation Theology, James Cone.

    #2.8 - Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:28 AM EDT
    Roy-933464

Hmmm, seems you would have to examine more than <10 lines of text to see what an ideology is about. Having explored my spirituality...after being raised as a Christian my whole life...I learned to hone in on the primary tenets of religions...there are but a few tell tale issues of course. What I seem to be looking at in that quote are manipulations by man found in every religion. In seeking to find the "truth" as connected to ancestry of a people not native to this country, many authors and spokespersons could not resist politicizing and profiting from the opportunity to shape the discussion.

But, most importantly, Black Theology isn't a singular religion. Everything related to self empowerment/improvement and/or religion addressed or filtered to a Black or URBAN audience just seems to get lumped under the heading. There's a historical basis about how social, political, religious subjects were addressed to the Black community. Historically it was often from a pulpit, but not from the pages of some exclusive Blacks only bible.

But say what you must to peddle fear.

Cone later admitted that his language was extreme in his earlier books. I do not believe that he considered all white people to be enemies of black people, but that white people who oppressed black people through acts such as lynchings were the enemies of black people.

    http://www.answers.com/topic/james-cone

In looking back on these earlier books, Cone later admitted that he would no longer use such extreme language, but, nevertheless, his condemnation of racism and oppression was as strong as ever.

He wrote in Cross Currents in 1977: "I think that the time has come for black theologians and church people to move beyond a mere reaction to white racism in America and begin to extend our vision of a new socially constructed humanity in the whole inhabited world. … For humanity is whole, and cannot be isolated into racial and national groups." Cone readily admitted that in his earlier years as a theologian he failed to appreciate that he was guilty of male chauvinism and sexist language, especially with respect to Black women. In the introduction to the revised edition of Black Theology and Black Power he wondered aloud, "With black women playing such a dominant role in the African-American liberation struggle, past and present, how could I have been so blind?"

John Russell - may I ask where you and the others here heard that the President practices "Black Theology", as opposed to a possible belief in "Liberation Theology"

Liberation theology[1] is a movement in Christian theology which interprets the teachings of Jesus Christin terms of a liberation from unjust economic, political, or social conditions. It has been described by proponents as "an interpretation of Christian faith through the poor's suffering, their struggle and hope, and a critique of society and the Catholic faith and Christianity through the eyes of the poor",[2] and by detractors as Christianity influenced by Marxism and Communism.[3]

Although liberation theology has grown into an international and inter-denominational movement, it began as a movement within the Roman Catholic church in Latin America in the 1950s - 1960s. Liberation theology arose principally as a moral reaction to the poverty caused by social injustice in that region. The term was coined in 1971 by the Peruvian priest Gustavo Gutiérrez, who wrote one of the movement's most famous books, A Theology of Liberation. Other noted exponents are Leonardo Boff of Brazil, Jon Sobrino of El Salvador, and Juan Luis Segundo of Uruguay.[4][5][6]

OK, let me guess? Beck told you, right? And what has he as prove of this latest piece of BS?

Thanks for providing the full context of President Obama's remarks. There are people will only accept the president's words based upon Beck's presentation. I appreciate your effort to inform us.

It's easy to pull information out of context. Apparently, it's also easy to denigrate a Christian because that Christian holds the Christian community to an individual and collective standard. We are charged to pray alone so that no one sees or hears us. We are also charged to work together. What I just stated paraphrases the president. I guess that makes me demonic.

from wiki shows that during the jim crow days and segregation Mr Cone was saying if 'white' churches supported racism, lynching than blacks should NOT go to those churches but you can twist the words if you wish just that you are wrong.

"Cone's theology also received significant inspiration from a frustration with the Black struggle for civil rights; he felt that Black Christians in North America should not follow the "white Church", on the grounds that it was a willing part of the system that had oppressed black people. Accordingly, his theology was heavily influenced by Malcolm X and the Black Power movement. Martin Luther King, Jr. was also an important influence; Cone describes King as a liberation theologian avant la lettre.[4]" wikipedia

"Liberation theology" is connected both in perception and reality to a Marxist viewpoint.

It is entirely funny to watch both sides of an issue like this. The far left, often atheistic in inclination, ends up defending 'Jesus' as a socialist or communist, when some of them don't even think he ever existed.

The right sometimes promotes Jesus as an individualist and "entrepeneur", which is equally funny.

Glen Beck is a jackass who is self promoting his way into the history books. The left has played into his hands at every turn.

Not sure how you arrived at such a lopsided conclusion here.... It's the right that are desperate for anything or anybody preaching for a return to times of old when there was some notional pecking order in the world. They confuse the correlation of the end of times of prosperity for the nation with the embracing of diversity and inclusion/acceptance as causality. Not a totally objective stance you got there John. Beck is but one example of the right's willingness to beatify anyone who says the right code words speaking to it's narrow audience. The funny thing is that the talking heads only share those things that divide us in common. The REALLY funny thing is when the superficiality wears through and the lack of substance and/or moral fiber is exposed. Now he is on the front page of every paper and the lead story of every media outlet in the country. The liberal outrage and OBSESSION with him, which is clearly evidenced EVERY SINGLE DAY on Newsvine, is at fault.

Beck was nothing until a black man became president. where was he while Bush was in office lying ? Bush is connected via family roots to Hitler and the SS. Did business with them. Where was the outrage then ?

the Left never would have noticed Beck had Beck kept his trap shut over Obama. So who do you think threw the first stone there ?

Becks a paranoid little man. Just like Rush . who make their money off the gullible.

Why the hell is that bastard Glenn Beck trying to get everyone to despise Obama? Obama should act demonic and murder that Fascist polygamist. Obama is our president, whether dear old Glenn likes it or not it. If he believed in the Christian religion, he should know the AntiChrist will rise up and get everyone on his side, only to do the Devils work. Well, it doesn't look like there are too many people on Obama's side... But hey, Glenn Beck!

Glenn Beck in my opinion is playing to the lowest common denominator in our Country. We can argue that is his right to do so but there is a line I think we should not cross and he has done that.

There are people who will take his words as fact and will act on them in a way that he will say that is not what he said. But we know that there are people out there who will take an action and have because they believe or preserve he wanted them to.

Glenn Beck is not the first one who has had to say he did not mean that some one take an unspeakable action but it happens all the time.

Words do matter and some time we should not say them.

FINALLY! Liberals defend Christianity. A total perversion of the Bible and a position taken out of pure hatred to attack another simply because of his opinions, but still. Baby steps.

Beck in his attack on Obama says that a Christian collective is demonic? A congregation/church is a collective. Are you, Spirit, like Beck saying the term "collective" is a perversion even though it applies universally to all people gathered, collectively, to praise GOD and/or to perform work in the name of GOD?

When people don't know that a term has various definitions, they accept the only one presented as though that's all that a term can be represented to mean. In addition to the meaning that Beck associates with liberation theology, the term "collective" is defined as corporate: done by or characteristic of individuals acting together; "a joint identity"; "the collective mind"; "the corporate good" forming a whole or aggregate members of a cooperative enterprise . . . like . . . a . . . church.

The actual problem with Beck name-calling out Obama is that a Christian [Beck] is standing in judgement of another Christian [Obama] to turn people away from the name called Christian as well as to attempt to make the name-called Christian feel bad about himself and his personal connection to GOD due to the name-called judgement. Name calling is the devil's work and that's demonic.

fact is ? 'the devil ' 'Satan ' and lucifer as christianity portrays them ? made up.

the devil , aka Satan is still an angel of God and can only do as God wants. and Lucifer ? refers to the king of Babylon. a real man. Neither of which fell anywhere .

Demons ? lol don't exist. mental illness does like Beck has , suggestion , mans label on something he doesn't exist. even a litarary slight at hate and preference of one over another. for example the story of Jesus sending ' demons' into a herd of swine.
why swine instead of sheep ? goats ? jews did not eat swine. only gentiles did. Jesus had no love for gentiles which is why he instructed his disciples to not preach to them. it is however a good story to get across how one group feels about another. and swine ? were never left to 'herd' . they were always kept penned or they go wild and are a menace to crops , as well as health. the pig was domesticated about 4500 years ago in China.

as for ' the anti christ ' ?

    * Morale booster: The book was written at a time of intermittent persecutions of Christians by the Roman Empire. Its purpose may have been simply to encourage Christians at that difficult time. It is typical of apocalyptic writings common among Jewish and Christian writers during the first century CE. According to James Kelhoffer, an assistant professor of theological studies at Saint Louis University:

"Many people who have interpreted the rich symbolism and mythology of [Revelation] have read into it to reflect on a world cataclysm within their lifetime. It greatly misunderstands ancient Jewish and Christian prophets who always talk about apocalypses within their own time, not several centuries hence.
    tp://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_ntb5b.htm

say you living in a country where if you dissented you could be killed but you wanted to get a message to a bunch of people.. you would write in terms that they would understand but those who dictated over you did not. ... that is the basis for Revelation in a simple explanation , but if you wish .... here ..

Kinda scary Glenn can pull in the numbers he has plus all the publicity. People are freaking out. Where did he come from? Who are all those white people following him. Are they Conservatives?I even heard one of those radicals yell "go to church and pray for America". Are they the bitter clingers, the homophobes, the racist, the Islamaphobes ? Hell, they even look like Grandma. Wait that was Grandma! No kidding she was on TV. My Grandma's a radical !

You folks should be ashamed of yourselves calling my Grandma such names. She claims she's taking back her country in November.

I love it. Grandma's gonna kick your ass in November.

And she's a lifetime Democrat. Your toast if you lost her.

Glenn Beck: 'Obama's not a racist, he's demonic'

        Beck is a racist and a demon~!

It's amazing how many people actually believe him and follow his every word!
Beck promised that "The Holy Spirit" would be on full display in public like never before!

Did any of you see The Holy Spirit? I sure as hell I didn't - what I saw was an idiot jackwagon selling a load of BS - that's no different than those gold commercials on his show!

Something I posted on an other story.

It is sad that some christians say they believe. But there actions may be more to impress there Neighbors. Since there actions do not in any way reflect what Christ has been reported to have said.

I think if there is a Hell there will be a lot of christians there.

To dismiss liberation theology as a perversion of Christianity is like calling Christ a pervert. There is nothing more Christian than a passion for social justice.

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck and tea party champion Sarah Palin appealed Saturday to a vast, predominantly white crowd on the National Mall to help restore traditional American values and honor Martin Luther King’s message.

How ironic that MLK's message was to correct Social Injustice, which is the basis of Liberation Theology and is one of the basic tenets of President Obama's faith. I notice that already some on this threat are repeating Beck's uninformed and typically misinterpreted view of this truly Christian theology. Typical. For those who have not researched anything about this belief but have only Beck perverted view, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Sad NO.. We have Joy in our harts that the best you people on the right have is people like Beck and Palin have to cheer about. If you had real solutions for any of the problems we face to day than we might not ridicule you so much.

GWB said he was doing what God wanted him to do but I for one think not. "Or that's what I believe" we make choices and only at the end of time will he say they were right or wrong.

SO SAD that you all believe he will tell you what to do well I do not believe you have read the same bible I did. There is noting in the bible from what I have read that you all believe Christ would approve of. If anything He was more of a liberal than what you might think.

Not to say you all are going to Hell but !!!!!
