Anyone who has watched the footage of Bill O’Reilly’s infamous meltdown on the set of Inside Edition knows that the Fox News personality has a hot temper. But you would expect the Fox News personality, who has sent his producers to literally stalk people like Huffington Post reporter Amanda Terkel, to have a relatively thick skin and be able to keep his composure in public. Not so, it turns out.

Bill O’Reilly, walking out of a Newt Gingrich fundraiser held last night in DC, is asked by Wisconsin community organizer Brendan Lane if he attended the fundraiser. O’Reilly ignores him and then, with no prompting, strikes Lane with his umbrella. He then says, “Hey, sorry about that.” O’Reilly, with Lane following at a distance, then walks with his now-broken umbrella over to a Capitol police officer. Incredibly, you can hear O’Reilly say that he wants to press charges against the man he just struck.

You know its over for a group of people, when they cannot keep their temper. Violence is never the answer, but then neither is making a fool out of yourself. I used to get drunk and watch “Jackass” This reminds me of someone.

Poor poor eternally puffed up B O. This right-wing elitist darling of the "conservative" right exhibits an oversized sense of self-justified emotional, intellectual, and civic dishonesty that perfectly illustrates his egoism every day. What this video does is underline and highlight that self-justified "right" to lie and hurt others which he and so many on the right feel so perfectly entitled to engage in; underline and highlight just how petty and vindictive such people actually are.

Bill-O the Clown just being Bill-O the Clown.

Now expect him to lie to his lemming worshippers and offer a complete self-justification that'll not only be willingly swallowed hook, line, sinker, and fishing pole... but that'll make the incident out to be the questioner's own fault.

Only about 1,000,000 times. There are some really hilarious mash-ups of Billy-boy's infantile temper tantrum. It's also very revealing how thick his skull really is. He is nothing but a mouthpiece. Watching him fumble with the stage crew I realized that literally all he knows how to do is talk in a steady voice. Outside of that, O'Reilly is a complete moron who knows but nothing about anything.

Go ahead, look again. If YOU really look at the video, you will see that the wind caught the umbrella AFTER he hit the guy with it, and took the umbrella in the opposite direction! The assault was deliberate, there can be little doubt.

I thought he was classier than that.

Perhaps O'Reilly was pissed off because unless he was there on official business, one could say he's openly supporting Gingrich - which a Fox News "journalist" is not suppose to do.

How dishonest is this thread. That video does not show the man with the umbrella hitting anyone with it. In the audio the questioner says he was hit but no hit is shown. To conclude there was a hit you have to accept the word of the questioner. Even if the umbrella did touch the questioner there is no evidence in the video it was intentional.

Moreover, it's clear the wind is blowing and has been caught up in the umbrella as anyone who has ever used an umbrella has experienced. The umbrella was whipping about as can be determined by the struts which were obviously bent by the force of the wind.

What the video depicts has been vastly misrepresented , obviously because of the enmity of the questioner and those who harbor it for the man carrying the umbrella.

It's fine to oppose the positions anyone takes but inappropriate to misrepresent the truth in an effort to seek advantage.

I'll bet O'Reilly would like to get some pointers—no pun intended—from the KGB on the proper type of umbrella to use against 'undesirable elements' [see "Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov'].

O'Reilly at a Gingrich fundraiser, eh? Well, whoever the candidate might be, if O'Reilly is fer 'im, as they say in the Ozarks, Ah'm agin 'im.

The video from Inside Edition is the piece that clearly reveals the hairline fracture separating the smooth 'sincerity,' the glib 'professionalism,' and the cool 'objectivity' that Bill O'Reilly tries so hard to project on camera from the abyss of boiling rage and seething contempt he feels for others—not just toward those with whom he fundamentally disagrees, but toward his like-minded guests and network colleagues as well—and which simmers just behind those beady little eyes. For O'Reilly, it's so difficult to be suave on a daily basis when what he really and truly wants to do is to go on an hour-long shooting spree in a shopping mall.

really. i guess i shouldn't expect much from Bill-O or anyone else with Fox, but how phenomenally stupid does one have to be to assault someone who's obviously video recording you? and then to go to a police officer and attempt to file a false police report??? omg; i guess maybe it's part stupid, big part arrogance.

Gary, you're clearly bending yourself out of alignment. If what you claim to have occurred had actually been the case, why wouldn't O'Reilly have issued a genuine apology to the journalist, instead of a perfunctory and obviously insincere "Hey, sorry about that"? Isn't that what any gentleman would have done in such a situation—particularly as the journalist is heard exclaiming "Whoa! Whoa! Hey!" as the umbrella is pushed closer and closer toward the camera lens and the crew? The umbrella was clearly intact, struts and all, as O'Reilly was walking along and as he lowered it in the direction of the camera and moved in; it was damaged at the moment of impact. And if it was an accident, as you claim, then why on earth would O'Reilly go immediately to a police officer and make a formal complaint against an innocent party? You're not making any sense.

You really should apply for a job at Fox News. You'd fit right in.

This is the result of watching too much of the network that has been proven to leave you less informed than if you hadn't watched any news at all. These people can look at undisputed video proof of an event and by careful deconstruction, they can spin, skew, and distort what they see until they believe it shows what they want to see, even if it doesn't fit the facts in any way at all. They will then carry on, behaving as if their fantasy version were real, and accuse all others of being "biased".

I cannot believe the hatred spewing from this vine. First of all he was NOT at a Newt fundraiser, this happend just a few feet away from the gates of the White House and Bill and this lady were on the way to the White House Media Party. How did someone report or claim he was at a Newt fundraiser?

Also the man running the camera was stopped and questioned by Secret Service, then the discussion with D.C. police about pressing charges.

If this happened the way the video was edited, dont you think they guy would have pressed charges with the police and had Bill arrested for assault?

Now O'Reilly and the report state that the man came running towards them yelling questions. I think I would have swung more than an umbrella if someone was running at me yelling questions out of the dark. Obviously it was aggressive enough for Secret Service to stop the guy and question him and turn it over to D.C. Police.

Also Bill is NOT journalist, he is a commentator. There is a difference as he is not reporting news but discussing news and discussing views with an obvious conservative, right leaning vew.

And before the personal attacks begin against me.......I read, watch, and listen to ALL sides before jumping to a conclusion. I am all for debating an issue, and I welcome open discussion. However I no longer respond to personal attacks or insults in these discussion boards any longer.

How did someone report or claim he was at a Newt fundraiser?

They didn't. The man with the camera simply asked if that was the case, and got an umbrella to the face for the trouble. What was reported later was that O'Reilly was not at the fundraiser.

Also the man running the camera was stopped and questioned by Secret Service, then the discussion with D.C. police about pressing charges

I'm sure O'Reilly gets as many death threats as anybody else. Enough to warrant a few bodyguards, anyhow.

It's possible he wanted to and was offered an out-of-court settlement to end it there. It is also possible that this man, realizing he suffered no serious injury, decided it wasn't worth the legal battle against a man who can easily afford the finest lawyers in the country.

Now O'Reilly and the report state that the man came running towards them yelling questions. I think I would have swung more than an umbrella if someone was running at me yelling questions out of the dark. Obviously it was aggressive enough for Secret Service to stop the guy and question him and turn it over to D.C. Police.

        What Fred said. #4.3

Also Bill is NOT journalist, he is a commentator. There is a difference as he is not reporting news but discussing news and discussing views with an obvious conservative, right leaning vew.

        Agreed.

And before the personal attacks begin against me.......I read, watch, and listen to ALL sides before jumping to a conclusion. I am all for debating an issue, and I welcome open discussion. However I no longer respond to personal attacks or insults in these discussion boards any longer.

I cannot believe the hatred spewing from this vine.

Fair recompense for the unending hatred spewing from o'liar for years. You reap what you sow.

First of all he was NOT at a Newt fundraiser, this happend just a few feet away from the gates of the White House and Bill and this lady were on the way to the White House Media Party.

There is no lady shown in the video with him...does she have to walk 10 paces behind or just stay out of frame because he doesn't want anyone to know he's with her? Also...this was filmed outside of the hotel where the gringrich fundraiser was being held, not the White House....seriously...do you think anyone would ask if he just attended a GOP fundraiser at the White House???? And what "White House media party" are you referring to? The only one I know of...the correspondants dinner, was held in the spring.

How did someone report or claim he was at a Newt fundraiser?

He was asked if he was at the fundraiser...since he had just walked out of the hotel where it was being held.

Also the man running the camera was stopped and questioned by Secret Service, then the discussion with D.C. police about pressing charges.

Why would the secret service have anything to do with o'liar? He's not a political figure...he's just a paid windbag. Are you making up this misinformation, or just repeating the things you were told? Is this what o'liar is now saying? That he has secret service protection?

If this happened the way the video was edited, dont you think they guy would have pressed charges with the police and had Bill arrested for assault?

Maybe...maybe not. Too many factors to know what he'll do....not the least of which is being lied about on fox for the next few days/weeks.

Now O'Reilly and the report state that the man came running towards them yelling questions.

As we can see on the video...the man is walking alongside him and asking one question repeatedly. Even if he "ran up" he clearly didn't assault or harm him...he just asked a question. We don't get to hit people for asking questions.

I think I would have swung more than an umbrella if someone was running at me yelling questions out of the dark.

Oh...so now you are saying that o'liar was askeered of him? Please. Don't you get embarassed by your own blatant twisting of the truth? Not even a little?

Obviously it was aggressive enough for Secret Service to stop the guy and question him and turn it over to D.C. Police.

Again....the secret service doesn't protect o'liar. He wishes.

Also Bill is NOT journalist, he is a commentator. There is a difference as he is not reporting news but discussing news and discussing views with an obvious conservative, right leaning vew.

True. The only thing he offers the public...is his admittedly biased and partisan rhetoric.

And before the personal attacks begin against me.......I read, watch, and listen to ALL sides before jumping to a conclusion.

Yet...you still jump to the wrong one. Despite all evidence to the contrary. Weird.

I am all for debating an issue, and I welcome open discussion. However I no longer respond to personal attacks or insults in these discussion boards any longer.

Well that makes it so much easier to say any ridiculous thing you want....just another drive-by poster...spew garbage and refuse to listen or respond to any feedback. Not quite sure how that qualifies as "debating"...but if you can't tell the difference between someone saying your information/conclusion is wrong and a personal attack...then I guess it doesn't matter.

Revolver I appreciate your response and no attacks.

And I suppose I was thinking of it from those threats that he would be a little gun shy with someone running up in the dark. I think I would have been a little frightened for sure. One person (left or right) reacting violently is too many.

But from the other perspective you are right, if no harm he probably would not have the same power attorneys as Bill. However with this video and witnesses I am sure someone would be ready to represent him.

I will choose not to dignify the other posts with a response.

No lady with him, no secret service, not at the White House, no White House media party, video plainly shows him walking alongside and asking a question, not threatening him in any way or giving him any cause for alarm...also shows o'liar being pissy, not scared...pretty much everything you had to say is....um....questionable.

I can see why you wouldn't want to repond to that...I wouldn't either.

O'Reilly relentlessly demonized Dr. George Tiller for several weeks, or possibly months before his death at the hands of terrorist Scott Roeder.

He's lower than pond scum in my opinion. Blood is running in thick freshets from his hands. Bill speaks, and people get killed. It's no surprise that he smacks people around with umbrellas. It's only surprising that he doesn't just blast them out of his way with a shotgun.

I suspect there is no video with the story because the video does not support the story. The video does not show the questioner being touched by the umbrella. Go look at it for yourself.

Yes, it does. There was nowhere else for the umbrella to go. It filled the frame of the camera. When it was pulled away from the camera it was broken. The only object it could have struck was the cameraman.

Are you people being intentionally obtuse about this? If the cameraman takes Billo to court I assure you the jury won't be confused.

I really think that simple assult charges could be filed. Not that that would be anything but a laughing matter to BillO. When you raise yourself to the level that he has, you just kind of watch everything swirl below you. If the tables were turned, it would be breaking news on FOX.

I just re-read this and I wanted to comment on how pretzeled-up you had to make your statement to complete it with all of your required conclusions in place. First statement:

"I suspect there is no video."

Just a few words later, "the video does not support the story." So, when you started typing that sentence you suspected there was no video. By the time you got to the end of the video you apparently had knowledge of the video that you were denying the existence of just a few words before, and were concluding that the video did not support the story.

Second sentence comes along, and now you have very specific (and dead wrong) knowledge of the video when you claim it does not show the umbrella touching the cameraman. When the umbrella filled the frame of the camera, it was impossible to be that close to the camera without poking the tip of it right into the person holding the camera. Again, only a complete thunderstruck gob-stopped drooling retard would not understand how obvious and unavoidable that conclusion was. When pulled away, the umbrella was broken from the pressure of being shoved into the cameraman. Again, unavoidable conclusion.

Now again I just have to pause here and recall that you started this turd of a comment with the statement that there was no video. Which by sentence #2 you were debunking with a flat-out lie that only a complete moron would believe.

You end your statement with a demand that we go look for ourselves, at the video you previously denied the existence of, and then lied about.

I guess my question is more of a meta-question. Do you ever @!$%#ing bother to read what you just wrote? Does it ever bother you that even a four-year-old could spot the glaring inconsistencies in your position?

Does it ever occur to you that hopping around like that attacking the story from every angle possible means that your lies and obfuscations end up contradicting each other? And that at the very least you should try to avoid combining two conflicting bull@!$%# statements into one sentence? I mean, could you try to be less obvious?

Thisbusymonster ---- You're funny monster. The video was not attached to the article. You have to go elsewhere and search for it to compare it to the content of the article describing it. Sorry that wasn't clear to you. By the way , despite your valiant attempt to conclude the video shows the umbrella touching the interlocutor, it does not. You can infer it does but it's not shown on the video. The video does not even show at any time the interlocutor. By the way, why the tone and need for profanity? Can't we just reason and discuss without all that hate? Peace

Use the umbrella to keep his face from appearing on the camera is one thing. Pushing the umbrella towards the guy to the point that it hits him is another.

The sarcastic tone of his "Sorry about that" indicates just how "accidental" the contact was, in case he ever makes that claim.

my bad, I just get excitable when the republicans go back to lies that were disproved ages ago and act like it never happened. It is part of their insidious nature. Like Bill O'Reily with his malmedy claims, he doesnt care he was proved wrong, he just repeats the same claim months later.

Yes, a billow of wind in fact.

O'Reilly very clearly assaulted the cameraman. That's not even remotely questionable. It was a deliberate attack.

I wonder if Billo ever considers that there are people in this world who won't hesitate to hit back.

Freeing People is always a good thing. Be it Egypt, Syria or anyone else. And the are truly free and Flourishing go tell them that they are not worth anything. That they deserved to have Saddam stay in Power. Eventually Dem or rep we would have gone back in period. Saddam sit on his hands and not kill people is like asking Fall didnt come after summer.

The story broke about Bill O'Really losing it in 2008. When that was actually recorded I am not sure. But it is relevant to the case we are presented with today, O'le Bill has an attitude problem. To this day I never watch FOX.

Actually we can mark a day on our calender, October 7, 1996, the day FOX news came on the air and changed the news media landscape for the worse and what seems to be, forever.

Unless of course some brave souls in congress reinstate the fairness doctrine. They do that, FOX will pull the plug. Being a republican PAC is all they know. Being disingenuous is all they know. Being unfair and biased is all they know.

Glorious day that would be for sure. Even if they remained could they stand to pay the piper every time they slanted a story? As much as they do, not hardly. Like I said, for Bill O'Really, FOX is a perfect fit.

Sponge Bob has a higher rating than BillO could ever dream of. So what's your point? Or do you have one? IMO, Sponge Bob is likely closer to the actual facts than BillO ever is.

And that may be the case on CABLE, but certainly not on network. By the way, he's NOT A NEWSMAN. He's a COMMENTATOR! Newsmen REPORT the news, they don't give their opinions. And they certainly don't give their opinions disguised as fact, especially when those "facts" are completely inaccurate.

By the way, his ratings are dropping like a stone and have been for a while.

I know, I know, all. DNFTT. Sometimes I just can't resist....

If you ever watched Fox news and the factor, what you saw was the same thing Fox news does to other people. What any news media outlet should do, interview and confront people to get answers. They didnt do anything wrong in that video clip to prompt that reaction from OReilly.

So asking a news personality a question on camera is "antagonizing" him?

I mean, talking to cameras is O'Reilly's job. He is expected to behave like a professional. Not an animal.

And also, is it OK that I just assume all conservatives are growling dogs? I'm down with that, because the right-wing has of late been acting like a pack of howling animals anyway. I just want to be sure we're clear on that so that when I call you folks a bunch of animals it's because you've self-identified as such.

This begs the question...how did o'liar know the questioner's politics? Or is the strategy to attack everyone and trust that anyone on the right will be grateful for any attention from their font of all propaganda and not press charges?

But let's keep this attitude in mind for the future....the one where the right sees themselves as growling dogs entitled to bite anyone they want. The next time someone from the left does something stupid (and they will...people are people) and the right has their panties in a twist about it...it will be useful to remind them that they feel this sort of behavior is not only acceptable, but expected and somehow commendable.

This is just silly. There will be no assault charges filed by any district attorney on either side of this tempest in a teapot. Please realize those in the judicial system will not allow it to be clogged by such a de minimus matter as this. There are truly significant legal issues that have first call in our great system of justice.

steven --- It would be a waste of judicial resources to handle something as ephemeral and trivial as this non-event. Watch and see if I'm not right and this is not pursued by the authorities. If they do it will only be because of the notoriety of the parties. Also what about Bill-O crying to the cop. See to me that it even worst. Bill-O hit the guy and then runs to the 1st cop he sees and cries while the one hit didn't even seek a cop. Bill-O is a freaking coward. and a hypocrite. He sends his hit piece out to do ambush interviews all of the time and brags about it. Has anyone attacked his hit piece like Bill-O did.

While O'Reilly probably didn't file an official report, there are penalties for filing a false police report.

The real reason O'Reilly made that claim to the police officer was because he knew that his actions had been caught on tape.

He was just trying to cover his ass in a preemptive strike.

October's cable news ratings are out, and Fox News reigned again. The perennial first place network claimed the top eight primetime shows last month.

I can't stand Bill O, he was accused and settled for sexual harassment, he is an idiot.

Then I guess the young reported should consider himself lucky he was poked by an umbrella only.

Their time in the sun is coming to an end. They smell the changes coming, and they are terrified that accountability is at hand.

Billo in particular has some things to answer for. And in a post-corporatist world, people like Billo are useless. Without a teleprompter and staff to give him things to read, Billo is an unimportant idiot. While his ego is too big for him to admit this openly to himself, he nonetheless has to be aware that he's a very tiny turd in a very large bowl, and that without the protection and support of the 1%, nobody needs Billo for anything.

That's why he's behaving like an animal. He's frightened.

Using an umbrella as a weapon! My God Mary Poppins will be so very upset. Misuse of an umbrella, tattle telling to the police. Bill needs a spoon full of sugar, or possibly a Valium.

Responding to a simple question with violence and then illegally trying to press false charges on a fellow citizen by lying about the events.....yes...let's minimize that and make it sound silly and frivolous.

After all, he would have gotten away with it and been on tv whining about how he was attacked by an organizer....and the organizer would be in jail on false charges facing an army of lawyers with deep pockets and a possibly ruined life...if only there wasn't that pesky video showing the inconvenient truth.

The really amazing thing...is he must have known he was being taped...he put the umbrella down to block it....and he STILL thought he was god-like enough to tell any outrageous lie he wanted and have the police act like his personal lap dogs. What a monumental turd.

I wonder if he was bullied in school. This could explain his run for help from the evil reporter problem. Flash backs of swirls and wedges.

I do not support Gingrich (sp?) or O'Reilly, but I watched the video and it looked to me that wind could have played a part. If you continue to watch the video, the umbrella turns inside out because of the wind. I did hear someone say that they were "Sorry" as if it were unintentional.

More details needed, beside just the guy saying that he was just hit by O'Reilly and what appears it to be, does not make it so.

I say let the law figure it out, if it is indeed assault with a deadly umbrella, then make him pay!

I heard the "oh, I'm sorry" too. It sounded VERY sarcastic. Plus, O'Reilly won't answer or address the question before the assault but takes the time to say "sorry". I'm not buying it.

The most telling part is where o'reilly tries to get the other guy arrested for assaulting HIM.

Face it...you can try and "spin" the umbrella any way you want...even though it's nearness to the camera and the cameraman's cry of surprise and pain might make that obvious enough...but you can't overlook the scumbag trying to lay false charges of assault on someone just for trying to ask a question.

Seriously? This is the shine you're trying to put on this turd?

It's not taking. It is very obvious that Billo deliberately jammed that umbrella into the cameraman. The point of it probably hit him in the chest somewhere.

Monster, how about you read even the title of the post before you comment. The community organizer in question here isn't the POTUS it is the loser O'Reily tapped with his umbrella and got all you libs into an uproar.

Theophile.. wow. The only one upset was O'reilly who ran to the 1st cop he saw to lie on this man. Now O'Reilly has said on his show that there should be laws for people coming up to people. Guess what too, O'Reilly sends out his people to do ambush interviews all of the time. O'Reilly is a big time coward and hypocrite who thinks that a law should be made just for him.
