Update: Roll Call reports he’s dropped out of the race.
South Carolina state Rep. Thad Viers, who’s running for a seat in Congress and was named a one of the National Republican Campaign Committee’s “On The Radar” candidates, was arrested on Friday for allegedly harassing a 28-year-old woman who broke off her relationship with him in July.
Viers previously pleaded “no contest” and was fined $500 for harassing his ex-wife’s boyfriend with threatening and graphic answering machine messages in 2006, according to The Sun News. This time around, Viers allegedly called, texted, emailed and appeared at the victim’s home and work repeatedly.

The report states that the filing features several documents that show that she asked Viers to stop contacting her on multiple occasions.
He’s currently awaiting a bond hearing in Myrtle Beach Jail.
“When the NRCC Finance Chairman is facing a criminal investigation for a campaign finance scheme, it should come as no surprise that NRCC Young Gun program candidates are being arrested too,” a Democratic operative told TPM.

No wonder he's a National Republican Campaign Committee's "On The Radar" candidate. He clearly is about abusive power over women and has difficulty imagining that someone isn't willing to put up with his bullsh*t. He's got a future with the rethuglicons--if he can avoid a conviction for harassment or domestic violence.

It's funny corruption and criminal behavior is an individual thing and crosses party boundaries. No single party is completely clean and neither side should be celebrating the downfall of stars on the other side. What we need to do is take the Ethics Committees for the House, the Senate, and all state Legislatures and remove them from control of the Democrats and Republicans. These Committees should be combined to form separate entities, one for and in each state and one for the Federal Government, that is filled with non-politicians and serve only 1 year with their only power to remove someone from office and laws put into place preventing those removed from office from running ever again. We need to clean up the corruption and whining about it or doing "grave dancing" when someone is caught is not the way to do it.

Yes there are miscreants on both sides of the aisle.
However, the numbers for sexual deviant behavior on the Republican side is atleast double that of the Democrats.
Combine that with the fact that the Republican scumbags proclaim themselves as the Party of "FAMILY VALUES".
The hypocrisy makes it even worse!

I was not "attacking the messenger". I asked a very simple question in regards to her interest in our politics. It isn't about xenophobia or what every you want to call it. You are making assumption based on your own phobias and ignorance of my reasons for asking. Sophie is a big girl. With her knowlegable writting skills I am sure can answer on own questions without you and others" protecting" her.
SO I will ask it again: I am curious...Since you are British why are you so interested in OUR political shenanigans? ...land owning by foreign nationals is nothing new. Hell, I think half the land in the US is now owned by someone who does not live here. Land ownership doesn't explain her interest in our governmental follies, stumbling and bumblings. Most Americans could care less about the Brits and their govermental actions... Most people follow the Royals with a sort of fairytale interest but not much more.
Once again proving the GOP hates women. They long for the good old days of the (TROGLODYTES)...

It's not that a Democrat has never done anything wrong, it's that Republicans have become the party of lawlessness. This guy was warned, he knew he was over the line, and he kept it up anyway, like he's above the law, above the warnings, and above the rights of others.
What's also remarkable is just how stupid this guy is. Calling from his friend's cellphone? Ever hear of caller ID? What a poster child for low IQ! Two preeminent qualifications for the GOP, a lawbreaker and an inability to recognize future consequences of his behavior. Was this guy on the Iraq War planning committee?

You're right, Mike! It's the application of the word "NO" to their personal behavior that they can't stand. The rest of us learned this during our pre-kindergarten days, but that's also the time when most of us learned that the world did not revolve around us, which is a lesson that they never learned. They all push insulting policies designed to hurt women, deny recognition of our rights as free citizens, disrespect our decision-making capabilities, and relegate us to second-class status. Refer to #23.1, again.

Even in anger, the truth can be spoken. The Teapublikan Party sees women solely as life-support systems for uteri and then stay-at-home, raise-the-kids servants for their man. Women are trapped in the Teapublikan system and do not even realize it. "Barefoot and pregnant." Their only other useful purpose is to vote...for their Teapublikan masters.

FreedomRanger - I am a veteran and many of the current Republicans in many states have proposed laws to limit abortion, are proposing personhood to a fetus in hopes of controlling/outlawing birth control. Many Repubs make it sound as if women are wanton harlots who lay whit everyman who comes anlong and the runs to the abortion clinic once a week or so, so from a mans point of view and a veteran, it seems that many GOPer's seriously dislike women and want to relegate them back to "bare foot, pregant and in the kitchen".
Even one of the current top contenders for POTUS on the GOP side said birth control is NOT ok and should be outlawed (a bit paraphrased, but basically what Santorum said).
So yes many of us men and women are a little angry with these attempts (attacks) to roll back womens rights.
- 4 votes
LOL and WOW....Pattie, that kind of post reminds me of this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSzshkg9LJ0
and then there is this and this:
it seems that many GOPer's seriously dislike women and want to relegate them back to "bare foot, pregant and in the kitchen".
The Teapublikan Party sees women solely as life-support systems for uteri and then stay-at-home, raise-the-kids servants for their man. Women are trapped in the Teapublikan system and do not even realize it. "Barefoot and pregnant."
There is a group of people who believe like that, but they are pretty much just found in the "religion of peace". You know that religion that makes women cover their face, doesn't let them go to school, drive, or have any rights, and are pretty much like the ones you just described.
Either prove your broad generalizations are true or back them up with PLENTY of fact.

ScottyW1,
Let me ask you a few questions:
1) Do you believe in the Constitution?
2) Do you believe that the Constitution is the extension of the Declaration of Independence?
3) If you said "Yes" to question 2, who do you think has a right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, all people or just certain people?
4) If you answered "All people" to question 3, why do you support abortion as it takes away the RIGHT to LIFE of the unborn?
Sadly, I do accept exceptions to my non-abortion stance for cases of rape, incest, and the PHYSICAL health of the mother. But, I prefer that all women that might desire an abortion for ANY reason seek adoption as a first choice. The unborn never asked to be produced in any particular fashion and are innocent of all crimes.
- 3 votes
yes I do - I fought and bled to uphold those freedoms, I never said I agree with abortion, I don't and feel kind of like you do about it; however for now it is the law of the land and THAT is what I uphold.

vol fan - here is one quick example
"The movement is also gaining momentum in Congress: GOP lawmakers have introduced three bill that would extend personhood rights to fertilized eggs. Sixty-three House Republicans signed onto Rep. Paul Broun's (R-Ga.) "Sanctity of Human Life Act," which mirrors the Mississippi personhood language. GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (Minn.) cosponsored Rep. Duncan Hunter's (R-Calif.) personhood bill, which would allow "the prosecution of any woman for the death of her unborn child," and Mississippi's own Sen. Roger Wicker (R) introduced a bill in the Senate that defines a person from the moment of fertilization."

I stand by my earlier statement

If you answered "All people" to question 3, why do you support abortion as it takes away the RIGHT to LIFE of the unborn?
Because non-viable, non-sentient tissue isn't "people"?
Hell, born people aren't considered "people" any longer if they lose certain brain functions....that's why they can be unplugged...nobody home. Fertilized eggs that haven't attained those brain functions aren't people yet...nobody home.
Something that doesn't exist yet doesn't have a "right to life".
