Herman Cain: 'Stupid people and ignorant people are ruining America'

Former presidential candidate Herman Cain triumphantly took the stage at CPAC this afternoon in front of a friendly crowd to explain something many attendees already believe: that their ideological opponents on the left aren’t “misguided” (as Sen. Rand Paul later offered) but downright stupid.

“We must outsmart the liberals,” Cain said. “We must outsmart the people who are trying to ruin this country.” But, he said, it wasn’t just the stupid people who were ruining the country: “Stupid and ignorant people are ruining America,” Cain posited — and running it.

The attendees at CPAC needed to understand that Cain didn’t leave the race because he was one of the “stupid” people. Rather, Cain said, he left for two reasons: “gutter politics” and because he “chose to put family first.” Cain’s remarks about the political process likely have more resonance now than they did in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment against Cain, given that the GOP primary has turned more negative in the last few weeks.

LOL! Thanks for starting my morning off with a chuckle Love!

So Mr. Uz-becky-becky-becky-beckistan thinks that the people running the country and those who support them are stupid and ignorant. Well Herm, glad we had you to tell us what you think of the republican led congress, yup DM Herm tells it like it is alright, the republicans are trying to ruin this country and the repubs in the house and senate are certainly ignorant and stupid. Wow, if it hadn't been for Herm's insight I never would have known this!

Good Morning Lov, (TGIF)

” Cain said. “We must outsmart the people who are trying to ruin this country.” “Stupid and ignorant people are ruining America, and running it."

The mentality of the Republican Party, shows us how they feel about America as we know it. You have watched the news, you have watched what the G.O.P. House has done the last four years, and they call us stupid. Lets see the real stupid walk away after the November elections, with 4 more years

I wish I had the time to run down there. I would have liked to have heard the tone of his voice. I'm going back and forth trying to decide whether he was complaining about Progressives - or giving the audience a progress report on their own efforts and verbally patting themselves on their backs.

GOP/TP are crazies. But where could they go? The left moved to the middle.

Obama just let off the banksters again with a 25 billion settlement.

I am pretty desolutioned with all the politics. Its just Obama is just more rational then other other lot. He seems to delegate just like GWB.

The man behind the 7-7-7 plan which just about every economist in the country called unworkable and misguided is calling out people for being ignorant?

While I agree many of us are ignorant, including myself when it comes to many aspects of politics, as someone running for office it was his job to rise above that and try and educate us. Give us a lesson in what we should be doing. Instead he took an unworkable plan that had a catchy slogan and tried to sell it based on the ignorance of the electorate.

Obama just let off the banksters again with a 25 billion settlement.

As I understand things - nobody was 'let off'. The $25 billion was a 'down payment'. No deal has been struck to prevent future civil or criminal prosecution or further fines. In fact, there is an investigative unit led by NY AG Eric Schneiderman looking into additional wrongdoings by the bank and the SEC is continuing to look into things as well. As the Washington Post reports,

The officials who crafted Thursday's settlement were careful to leave the door open to a wide range of future litigation, despite efforts by banks to shield themselves from such legal actions. It allows for future actions over fair-housing and fair-lending violations, as well as civil rights claims. It doesn't bar individuals from joining class-action lawsuits. Nor does it limit the lawsuits that private investors can file in search of damages, some of which have already been launched.

No stupid people leading this effort.

You mean people who are most likely attorneys kept the door open for future litigation? That almost never happens.

Nine, Nine, Nine.

My bad. With 7-7-7 I must have been channeling the slogan from his now debunked 2016 re-election bid when he proposed additional tax-cuts to eliminate the huge budget deficit created by his 2012 institution of 9-9-9.

buckeyenut -

Aaah - I appreciate the sarcasm. Good one. But ... as I'm sure you know ... it almost always happens that settlements close the door to future litigation. Contrast this settlement with the 1998 tobacco settlement - or to any SEC settlement.

And - since the settlement was crafted by the Justice Department, signed onto by 49 state AGs (OK's AG reached a separate agreement with the 5 banks), and has to be approved by a judge - I'd say you're safe in saying that "most likely" attorneys were involved in crafting the settlement. Good call!

Yep, no dummies in this group.

Are you so sure? What has history shown us? Always settling out of court. All the top 10 banks have settled out of court each time. They find the bank accountable not the banksters inside the bank who crafted the mess. They print out garbage that is hard to understand when the scams were simple. When if it was me or you. We would be going to jail. I think you can believe the lies all you like. The glass steagall act would of stopped this. The people who claim it would not just plainly lie. That is the game. Everyone lies about how good it is now. Lets look at the mess. 20 million homes owned by the banks. Then another 20 million mortgages in foreclosure , then 20 million more homes serving the mortgage. Now you see 60 million homes in MERs. Now lets just make a ruff guess. Say each house is worth 200k

200 000 x 10 000 000 x 6= 12 000 000 000 or 12 trillion in MERs. At least 12 Trillion in MERs.

Now We look at 4 Trillion owned by the banks, 4 Trillion in foreclosure.

Then the value of 750 billion in the loss in values? Even that figure does not make sense?

These people just out right lie. We can even figure out the costs.

Just again. The scam was simple. They set up a loan that they work out you can not pay. Then they get you to sign up for it. You fail and then they get the next sucker.

That was one scam. Then we have the scam about valuing the property. Then we have the scam that values the property higher so they can get the phoney profits.

Can you see how much scaming there is? What did they settle out of court?

Who is paying the fines? Its the american 401ks are paying the fines. These guys did the perfect crime.

I think you misunderstand what has happened so far. All the top 10 banks have been serial abusers of fraud, theft, deception , cronyism ,accounting control fraud, and scam aristry.

I make this up? Obama even says it.

Lets look at what Obama said, I quote.if you're a mortgage lender or a payday lender or a credit card company, the days of signing people up for products they can't afford with confusing forms and deceptive practices — those days are over.

Ok. Now go and read your credit card statement. See how much it has improved. Can you understand it? Has the jargon been cut out of it? What about your telephone bill? Has the jargon been cut out of it? Where are the reforms? Its easy to talk.

The simplicity we see is simply this. The money should not of been lent if the person was not credit worthy. The set them up to fail with interests they knew they could not afford. They wanted this crash. The dreamed it up.

Oklahoma was the lone holdout.

Only AG who was not a traitor. All the 49 AGs are sold and paid for. These people are criminals.

The worst part of it, they lie. This statute of limitations has been argued about since the crisis started. This is what they gamed it on. They knew it.

Did Obama change the statute of limitations of holding financial records by the banks? When someone commits crimes they hold records. These banks need to be forced to hold onto there financial records for 20 years.

Obama is a sham. We have a two tier system for the rich and FBI goes after the small guy. Then is proud of itself.

Oklahoma only 'held out' from signing the agreement that others signed. The OK AG signed a separate agreement.

Look - you seem to have a lot of questions and issues regarding the settlement. You can find a lot of information about it here. A link to the text of the settlement will be added soon.

Soph's article is about Cain and his wacky statements. Let's move any more discussion of the bank settlement to another article so we won't derail hers. Thanks.

Either he should know better or the requirements to be a CEO of Godfather's Pizza are not that high. No one is making this man foolish, but himself.

Recent studies have shown that liberals are in fact smarter. When people make fun of academics and intellectuals, they call them liberal elitists. So Cain is 100%. He's talking about himself.

Your not going to win Cob the Crazed. A liberal mind will just take an argument such as yours, call CEO's stupid, or perhaps make fun of the pizza chain, and then continue to insult. It would be alughable if it weren't so sad!!

Trust me my friend, I've seen a lot of stupid CEO's in my life. It beats the crap out of me some of these get paid to be. They shipped jobs to China, killed the middle class in America, almost tank the economy and now they want the government to protect their copy right. If that is not shortsighted stupid, what is?

It is still to early to tell of course, but all the polls and other sources iIve seen make it pretty likely that he will be re-elected-- regardless of who the eventual Republican nominee is (I think it will be Romney-- but no matter who it is, I think Obama will win the election-- and with a bigger lead than many people think).

And FWIW-- a few weeks ago InTrade had the odds of Obama almost even-- about 49%. In the last few weeks he's climbed-- now close to 60%!

            Hey, CPOSharkey!

Good to see you out here. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I can't help but equate silence with acceptance and as with you, I do not accept the vision that the Herman Cain's of our nation have for us. I remember watching in horror as President Reagan manufactured consent through repetition of falsehoods and as Gingrich created and taught republicans a destructive rhetoric with which to blast their way into congressional majorities. More importantly, I was stunned by democrats and liberals turning the other cheek in the face of republican prevarication. We do ourselves and our children a disservice if we allow the nonsense of the CPAC crowd to go unanswered.

Thanks much for your kind sentiments, my friend, and sorry about the soliloquy.

            Peace to you as well.

You know, if he'd have just left it at stupid people are running this country and not singled out one party, I'd have had to agree with him. I'd even expand it to stupid people vote for these stupid people that are running our country. We all fall for the dog and pony show and keep sending the same people who have done nothing of any real value back.

My example would be if this were football and the head coach, assistant coaches and management all failed to produce a winning team, we'd want their head on a platter. But put president, senators and representative in place of football team and suddenly mismanagement and failure becomes acceptable.

Ideologues and authoritarians are stupid and ignorant people. Ideologues cannot think thoughts that do not pass their personal ideological purity tests, making them only in contact with a very limited slice of reality.

Authoritarians cannot entertain thoughts that do not meet their personal criteria for power and self. They make themselves stupid by their need to wrap reality around themselves, and structure their concepts in terms of personal needs and urges.

The dumbest of the lot are the authoritarian ideologues. This speaks of much of the Republican Party leadership today. I often say on Newsvine that these people volunteer for stupid, and sometimes say they're powerless over their stupidity. It really doesn't matter, in the end, which it is: the end result is that ideologues and authoritarians are stupid people, whether they are ignorant or not. Let's be clear that it's quite possible to be an informed authoritarian, and less possible that it's likely to be an informed ideologue. Either way, they're stupid. And often out of touch with reality, that is, crazy.

Take each individual for their own merits and demerits. Ask if they're ideologues or if they're authoritarians, and then rate them according to stupidity and/or ignorance. My guidelines are useful for this.

I'm going out on a limb here to state that 90% of the people I encounter on the vine are idealogues. Just my opinion based on many conversations.

Ask yourself if the person serves an ideology, or if their opinion comes from analysis of the situation or reality under discussion. There's a difference between having an opinion - which everybody on Newsvine has - and serving an ideology. Who or what is shaping that opinion and those thoughts, the interaction between the person and the situation, or an ideology to which the person surrenders?

A person who surrenders their intellect to an ideology makes them self stupid, by definition. They have ceased to think.

Agreed, Agent57. We can all make jokes about how stupid Cain is, but once again the real concern is that there is an audience for this BS. A whole room full of people applauded this comments instead of asking for answers or substance or a return to unity. The Republican response to the alleged "divisiveness" of our President, is to divide the US into stupid and Republican? No common, reasonable ground to be found anywhere? I hope Cain rots in a hell...in a pizza oven! (After a natural death, of course, because we never actually wish physical harm to anyone.) The mere fact that he touted his nein-nein-nein plan which NO ONE respects any more as a viable plan, should have allerted his audience to the lack of intelligence of this man.

If the coming election is a blowout for the Dems, as many expect and hope, I predict that there will be civil war in the GOP that may last a while. But, I hope it lasts long enough for the DEMs to fix the multiple messes this version of the GOP has created over the past 3 decades!!

I wish CPAC would go on for several weeks, the comedy material just keeps coming and coming! This guy ran for President and actually thought his past indiscretions would just float away! The irony of his claim that stupid people are ruining America apparently escapes him! What else can the GOP come up with? There is no way even the smartest Liberal could make this stuff up, it is just too unbelievable!

Cain believes stupid people are ruining America but that he is not one of them. Yet his campaign showed little more than an inept candidate who knew little about anything of importance and thought he could skirt around his past. If anything it left me feeling that you don't have to be very smart to be a CEO in America.

Surprising that we see Conservatives trying to portray liberals as "stupid" when they are asking their voters to support policies that are literal poison to most of them? They have pulled this off quite effectively for several decades. They look for the simple minded and then exploit them through paranoia, xenophobia and outright hate.

Intelligence is not really the question regardless. It is how intelligence is applied. Were Goering and Goebbels stupid? Hardly. But there were masters of manipulating weak and lazy thinkers. Not unlike a Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. There are smart Republicans. But how are they using that intelligence? For what purpose?

Unfortunately, Cain is one of those stupid people too stupid to know he's stupid. Like Palin. Give him a microphone and an audience, and he thinks he's smart. Give him a ghostwriter and a book, and he thinks he's a damn genius. There are people I disagree with, but still respect, and then there are people like Cain...

Stupid, is Herman Cain sharing the stage with that racist white supremacist Brimelow and the rest of those bigots at CPAC. I wonder how he felt when he looked around the room and saw that he was one of only 9 black people in attendance?

Stupid, is Cain still hasn't figured out that the only reason these white people invite his silly ass to events like CPAC is so they can have a jester to laught at.

Nah, that wasn't the kettle talking back, that was God telling Cain he was the chosen one. Gotta keep those voices straight.

while i was working in the civil rights movement people like herman cain would be adamant that they were "Negros", not black. they felt that we were "trouble makers" and had no problem calling us that so negro is what we called them. we used the title to distinguish them from the more progressive members of the race.
