In an oh-so-kind OpEd in the Financial Times, Gary Silverman analyzes a head-scratcher of a campaign ad in which Mitt Romney attempts to use President Obama’s now famous mini-rendition of Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together to paint Obama as someone who’s only interested in raising money.

Romney will likely be the first man in history to outspend a sitting president. Accusing his opponent of too much fundraising certainly appears little different from the pot calling the kettle, as Rick Santorum might say, “blaaah.” Is that it? Silverman didn’t quite go there in his OpEd, but really, who doesn’t like that song and who doesn’t think the President did a quite admirable job of the few notes he sang? Silverman blamed the disconnect on Romney’s age, reminding his readers that the song charted in 1972. Anyone who listened to it then is now more than grown up.
