The Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) has filed a legal challenge to California’s new reparative therapy ban. California’s Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 1172 that bans non-scientific “therapies” used with minors to overcome feelings of homosexuality. Many of these“reparative” or “conversion” therapies have driven young adults into depression and suicide.
PJI is, as their website explains, a non-profit 501(c)(3) “legal defense organization specializing in the defense of religious freedom, parental rights, and other civil liberties.” Brad Dacus is the group’s president and lead legal counsel. He previously served as Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX).
